Laura Meriluoto (born in 1985) is a social worker from Kuopio. She is originally from Kuusankoski, and she graduated from the University of Eastern Finland with a master’s degree in social sciences. Meriluoto has worked in the social sector and is particularly familiar with improving the status of the least well-off people. She is a first-term MP and the Second Vice-Chairperson of the Parliamentary Group. In addition, she is a member of the Kuopio city council and the North Savo regional council and regional board.

In my view, Finland needs, in particular, significant investment in welfare services that takes regional needs into account, so that people’s fundamental rights are upheld, inequality can be tackled and staff wellbeing at work can be improved. A just society combats poverty, social exclusion and inequality, and also looks after future generations. Everyone should have the opportunity to live a life of dignity, both now and in the future.

The Left Alliance is my party because the Left is a genuinely red-green party whose aim is to bring about a fair green transition. Social and health care issues and matters of inequality are at the heart of my expertise and my political work, without forgetting environmental, climate and animal rights issues.

In politics, the best results are achieved through broad cooperation across party lines. Politics is not a solo endeavour. You cannot succeed on your own, no matter how skilled you are.
