In our privacy policy we explain the processing of personal data carried out by Vasemmistoliitto. We aim to be open about what information we may process about you and for what purposes the data are used. We act as the data controller in accordance with data protection legislation when we process the data described in this privacy policy.

Please contact us primarily by email regarding data protection matters. This allows us to respond to your matter as efficiently as possible.

We process personal data for three purposes:

1. Membership register and candidates

Our membership register is a membership list maintained in accordance with the Associations Act, and its maintenance is a statutory obligation of the party. In our membership register we process only such personal data that are necessary for carrying out the party’s activities and managing membership, as well as for member communications and for statistical and research purposes.

We also collect information about persons who seek to become candidates of Vasemmistoliitto, who are Vasemmistoliitto candidates in elections and who are elected to positions of trust within Vasemmistoliitto in elections.

2. Informing about the party’s activities and marketing

We process personal data to reach our current and potential members, our voters and other stakeholders. Processing personal data is necessary to reach you and to tell you about us and what our values are, what we do and what we aim to achieve with our work. We collect information, for example, about people who have subscribed to our newsletter, donated to candidates or the party, expressed interest in candidacy, signed up as volunteers or signed our petitions.

Newsletters, communication and forms

Personal data are also processed to communicate current matters, for example in the form of newsletters. We send messages to individuals who have expressed interest in Vasemmistoliitto’s politics.

When you contact us via forms, we ask you to provide personal data in the form of contact details so that we can respond to your feedback personally.

3. Maintenance and development of the website

Your rights regarding the personal data we process

You have the right to exercise the rights described here by contacting us at the contact details specified above. We will respond to your requests as soon as possible and at the latest within one month of receiving the request. If there are many requests or they are complex, Vasemmistoliitto may notify you in its response that it needs more time to process them. If we notify you that we need additional processing time, the deadline will be three months from your original request.

Right of access and the right to rectify incorrect personal data

You have the right to check which personal data concerning you we process. At the same time you can also ensure that the information about you is accurate.

Please specify in your request:

  • Which information you want to access
  • Do you want to access all your information or information from a specific time period
  • In what format you want the information
  • Your name
  • Your contact details (for example email address or phone number)

If you find errors in your information, tell us which data are incorrect and provide the correct information verbatim so we can correct the data as soon as possible.

Stopping marketing emails and other direct marketing

You have the right to object to direct marketing and to the use of personal data for direct marketing purposes (the so-called right to object). You can stop receiving newsletters by following the instructions included in those communications. In addition, you have the right to prohibit us from contacting you in connection with telephone campaigning. Please note that if you object to direct marketing, we must process your personal data in order to record your request not to be targeted for direct marketing.

Right to erasure

In certain situations you have the right to ask us to delete the data concerning you. We will delete the data if:

We no longer need your data for the purpose for which they were collected.

You withdraw the consent you have given and there is no other lawful basis for processing your data.

You object to the processing of your data and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for the processing.

You object to the processing of your data for direct marketing.
