Veronika Honkasalo (b. 1975) is a Helsinki-based Member of Parliament serving her second term, a youth researcher and a city councillor.
In my view, Finland particularly needs swift action to mitigate climate change in a socially just manner, so that absolutely everyone feels that climate policy is their own. Ambitious climate policy always goes hand in hand with the promotion of social equality.
The Left Alliance is my party because I know that everyone in the party works tirelessly every day to improve people’s everyday lives and promote equality. This work is not just about branding, but about genuine efforts to change social structures so that well-being is not just the privilege of the few.
In politics, you achieve the best results by listening widely to people from different backgrounds, familiarising yourself thoroughly with the issues, setting priorities, networking – sometimes even with those on the other side of the political divide – being persistent, reading inspiring literature, remembering to rest, and taking good care of your own wellbeing.
