Mai Kivelä (born 1982) is an environmental activist, Member of Parliament and city councillor from Helsinki.

In my view, Finland particularly needs a socially just climate policy. Finland can become the world’s first carbon-neutral welfare state, where climate action creates new jobs and addresses many challenges simultaneously. We need Finland’s own Green Deal.

The Left Alliance is my party because the environment sets the framework for our actions, and within these limits, society must be organised in a socially just manner. The Left is closest to my heart because it best combines climate, environmental and human rights issues. Furthermore, improving the status of animals is really important.

In politics, you achieve the most when you work together and are bold. You also need to be well-informed about the issues and be prepared to put in a lot of hard work.
