Minja Koskela
Party leader, Member of Parliament
Minja Koskela (born in 1987) is a first term MP and City Councilor from Helsinki. Before entering politics, she was a music teacher and music education researcher.
In my view, Finland particularly needs a people-centred economic policy, the parameters of which are dictated by climate change and the loss of biodiversity. We must move away from vague talk of cuts, debt populism and tax cuts for the rich, and start strengthening the structures of the welfare state. This is achieved by investing in education and climate change mitigation.
The Left Alliance is my party because it is the only party that combines analytical class politics with strong climate action. Furthermore, it is important to me that political means can be used to promote the rights of all marginalised groups.
In politics, the best results are achieved when we work together. Nobody makes policy on their own! A larger group is better placed to challenge traditional right-wing thinking and build a future where the environment sets the limits on economic growth and where the economy serves people, rather than the other way round.
