The Left Alliance’s working groups 2026–2028
The working groups prepare the Left Alliance’s policies and programmes. They bring together experts and active members from various fields, monitor developments in their respective areas, contribute to programme development and produce background material to support the party’s decision-making.
Working Group on Regional and Rural Policy
The Regional and Rural Policy Programme sets out the party’s objectives for regional development, rural infrastructure, housing, livelihoods, public services, accessibility and the ecological transition in rural areas. The programme also draws attention to the specific circumstances of remote areas and the need to ensure a just transition at regional level. The working group’s task is to prepare a proposal for a regional and rural policy programme for the party executive, to participate in the debate on regional policy, and to produce expert background material for the party’s other programme work and policy-making. The working group will draw up a programme proposal by autumn 2026.

Working Group on Economic and Employment Policy
The working group’s task is to address issues relating to economic and employment policy and to draw up one or two programme proposals on these topics. Among other things, the working group is to set out guidelines on how the state, regions and local authorities can create platforms for various forms of economic activity based on left-wing principles. In addition, the working group must address educational opportunities for the unemployed, wage-subsidised work and a social security system that supports employment, as well as labour market structures from the perspective of getting the unemployed into work. The position of workers in subcontracting chains, international recruitment and the associated grey economy are also on this working group’s agenda. The working group will produce proposals for programmes for autumn 2027 and/or spring 2028.

Working Group on the European Policy Programme
The working group will draw up a proposal for a European policy programme for the party executive, setting out a principled position on the direction in which the European Union and the Economic and Monetary Union should be steered. The working group will produce the draft programme by spring 2028.

Climate and Environmental Policy Working Group
Monitors developments in its policy area. Contributes to the preparation of election manifestos. Produces background material for use in local and national decision-making, as well as for use in elections. Prepares proposals for the party executive on current issues. The working group’s remit also includes taking agriculture and forestry into account.

Eastern Finland Working Group
The Eastern Finland Working Group is preparing a proposal for the party executive on a policy package focused on strengthening the future of Eastern Finland and regional equity. The working group is examining the specific challenges and opportunities facing Eastern Finland from the perspectives of, amongst other things, well-being, vitality, employment, education, accessibility, security and demographic trends. The aim is to develop a comprehensive framework that both addresses the most pressing needs of Eastern Finland and sets out a long-term development path to strengthen the region’s position. Timeline: autumn 2026.

Working Group on the Rule of Law
The Working Group on the Rule of Law will draw up a concrete and well-reasoned proposal for the party executive on reforms which, by amending the Constitution and other structures deemed necessary, will protect and strengthen the Finnish rule of law. The working group will cooperate with party bodies and the parliamentary group, consult party members and grassroots organisations, and draw on legal expertise to inform its position. The working group’s policy proposal will be finalised in spring 2027.

Working Group on Ownership Steering
The working group is to draw up, by the 2027 parliamentary elections, a proposal for an ownership steering programme, comprising a concise, concrete set of measures—consistent with the party’s policy—aimed at the general development of state ownership governance, to develop each key state-owned company, and to establish any necessary new state-owned companies or to nationalise existing operations. The working group will draw up the draft programme by autumn 2026.

Anti-Racism Working Group
The Anti-Racism Working Group will draw up a proposal for the party executive on an anti-racist policy programme for the parliamentary elections. In addition, the working group will update the party’s policy programme on migration and integration, paying particular attention to the cuts made by the current government. The working group will draw up a proposal for the migration and integration policy programme by January 2027 and for the anti-racism policy programme by autumn 2027.

Artificial Intelligence Working Group
The Artificial Intelligence Working Group comprises party activists and experts with an interest in the subject (e.g. researchers, teachers, technology professionals, and experts in data protection and ethics). The working group serves as a forum for internal party discussion and as a source of initiatives on issues relating to artificial intelligence. Its tasks include, amongst other things, preparing a proposal for a discussion paper on AI policy for the party executive. The working group will produce the proposal as a discussion paper by autumn 2027.

Working Life Working Group
The Working Life Working Group acts as an expert body on working life issues and as a link between the trade union movement and the party. The working group prepares position papers, statements and comments on current issues for the party’s use. The coordinator of organisational activities acts as the working group’s secretary and rapporteur. Members of the working group are selected, in particular, from those holding positions of trust and administrative roles within trade unions.

Working Group on the Social and Solidarity Economy
The working group will draw up a proposal for the party executive on a programme for the social and solidarity economy. The programme will include, amongst other things, a clear and recognisable description of the community and solidarity economy, a justification of its significance for the party’s economic policy, and political initiatives and ideas for action. The working group will produce the draft programme by autumn 2027.
